February News

from the Carlisle House

Well, here we are in February again, the month of President Lincoln's birthday so we're going with a Civil War theme! It is always an interesting month at the Carlisle House. January is fun, we have enjoyed our Cabin Fever guests immensely, but for us the new year really starts in February.

It is in this month when Historic Carlisle Inc.(see www.historiccarlisle.com) have their first significant event of the year, the Tavern Dinner. Taking place on Saturday February 9, there is limited space so to join in with this incredibly good cause and a great fun evening, book your room and tickets early!

Of course it is also the month of Love when we remember why we got married (actually we never really forget, but a reminder doesn't hurt!), and for some strange reason we see an uptick in people wanting to come stay and get our Romance Package! And why not call us to order a set of our Comphy sheets for each other so that you can enjoy a little bit of the Carlisle House experience at home!

If you're unable to get away for Valentine's Day, we remind you that Carlisle House Gift Certificates make great gifts for the love of your life so if you find this part of the newsletter printed and casually left for you to see, it MAY just be a hint!

You may know that in Carlisle, favorite restaurants often have nicknames. "The Milton", "The G-Man", spring to mind. Our newest is "The Whelly". You heard it here first! And you'll find all the details further down in our "At the Dining Table" section below!

Did we mention that President Lincoln will be joining us at the Tavern Dinner?

Whatever your reason for coming to Carlisle, remember that Carlisle Starts Here, at the Carlisle House!

At the Dining Table

Howdah to the White Elephant

…Amy of Amy’s Thai has retired after many years of providing great Thai food in downtown Carlisle. But Thai food-lovers need not despair. With a classy redecoration in rich shades of cinnebar, the White Elephant, Cuisine of Thailand, is open for business. Because we want to give our guests the very latest gourmet information, Mary and I venture out even on the coldest of evenings to bring you news of Good Food in Carlisle and the surrounding region. In this case, a 5-minute stroll from the Carlisle House brought us to the White Elephant just three blocks away.

With a menu incorporating dishes such as "Evil Jungle Princess", Eggplant Stinger, and Drunken Noodle, you really can't go wrong. We really enjoyed the whole meal, and as mentioned at the top of this newsletter immediately gave it the nickname of "The Whelly" . We will be going back to the Whelly regularly, and judging by the response to our Facebook comments, so will a lot of our friends and guests!
