November News

from the Carlisle House

Our newsletter is a little late this month as we waited to see what Hurricane Sandy would bring to us. We are thankful that - at least on Hanover Street - we had no flooding, apparently only moderate winds, and no power outages at all. Unfortunately our guests have not been so lucky, we had cancellations from NYC guests who could not leave the city and last night we received a guest from Connecticut who had been without power for 5 days. Our hearts go out to all who are suffering the aftermath of Sandy's calamitous visit.

On a brighter note, November kicks off the holidays! Not only do we have Thanksgiving, but we have the start of the main shopping season for holiday presents of all sorts. Why do we say this? Well those of you who have stayed with us this year will have experienced the total luxury of our Comphy sheets. Extraordinarily comfortable right throughout the year, our guests have described them as "sleeping on velvet" or even "buttery soft". Save yourself the trials of Black Friday and check out our Carlisle House Gifts where you can find full details. Comphy sheets will be drop-shipped from Comphy directly to you, and we cover the shipping and handling fees. Carlisle Starts Here, and so should your holiday shopping!

Wishing for our Comphy sheets?
And while you are shopping..

Well, you have to eat to keep up your shopping stamina! Imagine a pre-holiday visit where you can indulge in one of the many varied cuisines right here in our downtown. Maybe a Costaletta alla Milanese made with Turkey breast, breadcrumbs and parmesan to get you into the Thanksgiving frame of mind, or an array of Spanish and Moroccan Tapas to get you into the mood for warmer weather! You can enjoy a Hotchee Dog without needing to freeze at the ball-park, or a French Macaron without going to Paris. And at the Market Cross English pub you can sample their very own Bessie's Nut-brown Ale named for a well-known character from Carlisle History…

Farmers on the Square

If you've visited us mid-week, you have probably seen the "Farmers on the Square" (FOTS) Farmer's Market beside the Presbyterian Church. It is a farmer run, seasonal market that operates in downtown Carlisle, PA with vendors who live and work within 50 miles of Carlisle, so it really is a local market! It has been a great year for FOTS as you can see here.

The market has now moved to its winter indoor location from where it will emerge again next May! In the meantime you can find it at The Depot on the Dickinson College campus at Cherry and West High Streets.

58 days to . . . . . Cabin Fever!

The Countdown continues...

We mentioned the Cabin Fever January promotion last month. But what we did NOT say is that our guests can use a Carlisle House Cash Gift Certificate for this very special offer! So if you're looking for a gift idea, in January your giftee can get twice the pleasure - and give you twice the appreciation!

We've been supporting Pennsylvania's Cabin Fever Initiative for several years and 2013 is no exception! For the whole month of January stay one night and the following night is at no charge. This is a favorite time for our guests, so please book early to ensure that you get your rooms.

Remember that we are just 35 minutes from Ski Roundtop, and an hour from Ski Liberty, and we have all these fabulous restaurants within walking distance to sip a drink, nibble a tapas, or enjoy a comforting aprés-ski dinner!

There are no blackout dates for this offer, although there are nights for which we are already full. We cannot, unfortunately, combine Cabin Fever with any other offers, gift cards, or certificates (except for Carlisle House Cash Gift certificates or Select Registry certificates), and the offer applies only to the room rate.

At the Dining Table

Carlisle goes Southern!!

Apart from your favorite Bed & Breakfast, Hanover Street has a lot to offer. Antique stores, clothiers, two churches, American, Italian, Asian, Japanese, and Tapas restaurants, an English Pub, and now a great taste of the South with Redd's Smokehouse BBQ.

Some might call Redd's menu minimalist. We prefer to think of it as knowing what to do, and doing it well! Your choices are varying combinations of chicken wings, ribs, hand-pulled Pork, hand-pulled Chicken, ½ Chicken Dinner, ¼ Chicken Dinner, and 4 sides. Classic and sweet potato fries complete the selection.

Redd's Smokehouse BBQ is NOT a fine dining restaurant - in some ways it's better than that! It's casual, popular with a cheerful crowd of diners, and of course it is right next door to the Market Cross Pub in case you want to BYOB.
