October News

from the Carlisle House

And in October, not only does Carlisle Start Here, but so should your fall-foliage tours! Mid to late October is a great time to see the glorious colors of Fall emerge in the Cumberland Valley. If you live in the Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, or Washington DC areas, you're just one and a half to three and a half hours from a gorgeous Fall getaway!

So why not come to South Central PA? Not just for the leaves, but for all the many and varied Fall events. Check the Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau for all the many choices of fairs, festivals, and events!

The Fall in Carlisle really does start here…
The end of our growing season

We love growing our own vegetables and then using them in our breakfast quiches! But sooner or later the growing season ends. For some reason, this year the Poblanos were very late developing, but they have wonderful flavor and quite a bit of heat when we roast them! Tomatoes are always good to have - particularly for our French quiche with bacon and brie. We look forward to serving you our delicious breakfasts next time you visit us.

92 days to . . . . . Cabin Fever!

Yes, yes, we know, but...

We've been supporting Pennsylvania's Cabin Fever Initiative for several years and 2013 is no exception! For the whole month of January stay one night and the following night is at no charge. This is a favorite time for our guests, so please book early to ensure that you get your rooms.

Remember that we are just 35 minutes from Ski Roundtop, and an hour from Ski Liberty, and we have all these fabulous restaurants within walking distance to sip a drink, nibble a tapas, or enjoy a comforting aprés-ski dinner!

There are no blacked out dates for this offer, although there are a few nights for which we are already full. We cannot, unfortunately, combine Cabin Fever with any other offers, gift cards, or certificates (except for Select Registry certificates), and the offer only refers to room rates, not to any extra guest charges.

At the Dining Table

Stars over Carlisle!

We've been saying for a long time that Carlisle has become the culinary capital of Central Pennsylvania. We found out just in time for this newsletter that two of cookings brightest stars are coming to Carlisle to further enhance the reputation of our great town!

Pippa Calland is a hugely successful and experienced chef. Not only has she won on the Food Network's "Chopped" series, but she is also to appear in BBC America’s “Chef Race: U.K. vs. U.S.,” a new and original unscripted series that follows 16 chefs, eight American chefs and eight British chefs, as they race from Los Angeles to New York City in hope of winning $100,000.

Pippa is the new head chef at The Green Room, where she will be continuing the tradition of locally grown produce and meat, presenting fresh and tasty meals with her own inimitable spin!

Meanwhile, back in May the nationally recognized Dingeldein Bakery in New Cumberland closed its doors due to a down economy and a drop in wholesale orders.

New Cumberland's loss though, is Carlisle's gain, as Russ Dingeldein has joined local entrepreneurs John and Nadeen Bogonis at the Carlisle Bakery, where once again his amazing talents will be producing the mouth-watering cakes and pastries for which he is justly famous in our region! If you need a special event cake, then why not call the Carlisle Bakery at (717) 462-4160 - but be sure to order well in advance, as he is sure to be very busy!
