June News

"Summertime, and the livin' is easy…" wrote DuBose Heyward, and when Gershwin put a tune to it the song became an anthem to all things summery! And in Carlisle, along with summer comes the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra with Conductor Stuart Malina performing a free concert in Carlisle which abounds with patriotic marches, tunes and songs, ending with the 1812 Overture!

Before that, and staying with the musical motif, Bluegrass on the Grass happens just a couple of blocks from the Carlisle House, and to complete the musical theme of this magical summer, just around the corner on Pomfret Street every Saturday from 4 to 6pm is a free concert - each one featuring one of a variety of female singer/songwriters.

As that well known musician William Shakespeare might have said "If music be the food of love - then you have to Love Carlisle"!

35th Annual Summerfair

Started in 1978, Summerfair was the creation of the 1978 Sentinel newspaper Publisher.

With high gas prices, he wanted something for families in the Carlisle area to do over the Fourth of July holiday. Over the years this has expanded into a 10-day celebration of summer starting with a Rotary Club Roast Beef Dinner, and ending 10 days later with an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast!

If you love small-town America, then this is definitely the place to be and to experience it!

Events include the town parade and Historic Carlisle Walking tours, a patriotic concert by the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, 5 & 10k races, Jim Thorpe track Meet, Craft Show, fishing derby, theater musical “The Pajama Game” and many more fun events.

You can find the schedule and lots of details at: CarlisleSummerfair.org
