May News

from the Carlisle House

Our 8-year celebration continues! At 9:02pm on April 29, our new guest Katie went on-line and made a reservation to stay with us during the first week of May. It was our 8,000th reservation, and it came just eight years and twenty-four days after we opened our doors to discerning travelers in Pennsylvania.

It is because of Katie and others like you that we have been able to become a part of Select Registry, and to be voted "Best of Carlisle" every year since we opened.

We asked Katie how she found us, and she said that she Googled "Luxurious Bed and Breakfast in the Carlisle area". Well, if Google says it, then it must be so!

Cars at Carlisle!
The Spring Carlisle show and swap meet kicked off the 2012 season and the town was filled with autos and motorheads from all states and countries. We are looking forward to the next big ones with the All Ford Nationals June 1-3 and Chrysler Nationals July 6.

Speaking of Dickinson College...

Dickinson Class of 2012

But all is not lost! There are lots of Alumni events over the course of a year, including of course Alumni Weekend. We're already full this year for Alumni Weekend, but there are many years to come when you can return and celebrate the great years you've had here at Dickinson College in Carlisle!
And now Class of 2012, turn your heads away while we talk to the Graduating Parents! After 4 years of visiting Carlisle to help your students move in, move out, do their laundry, make sure they (and 20 of their closest friends) have enough to eat - remember that Carlisle is also the best place for a weekend away with non-Dickinson activities!
Check out our Activities, Attractions, and Around Carlisle pages for lots of great ideas!

Farmers On The Square
Opens May 9
Farmers on the Square (FOTS) is a farmer run, seasonal market that operates in downtown Carlisle, PA. Our vendors live and work within 50 miles of Carlisle, so ours really is a local market!

Carlisle's downtown square is a traditional location for a market. Between 1751 and 1952 the spot that currently holds the Cumberland County Courthouse hosted open-air or enclosed farmers markets. FOTS is the first market on the square in over 50 years!

Trattoria Piatto is an authentic Italian experience in Carlisle!
Chef Ross Morris started the transition of Carlisle in its quest to become the culinary capital of South Central Pennsylvania some ten years ago with the opening of Piatto. Since then he has extended Piatto's range by transforming it into its current Trattoria concept with the addition of a full bar specializing in true Italian Wines, Grappas, and other fine Italian beverages.

A selection of Antipasti starts your Italian adventure, perhaps with Crab Fritters served with roasted red pepper mayonnaise. The grilled pizzas, made Italian style, are thin and crispy with a simplicity of ingredients providing an elegant and satisfying start to your dinner.

A selection of pastas in the Primi section provide choices sufficient to give any pasta lover a hard time deciding which is best, and the Secondi part of the menu features items such as the Costoletta alla Milanese, which is simply outstanding in the tenderness and succulence of the turkey cutlet - and a squeeze of lemon augments the taste beyond all expectations. If your inclination is more towards seafood, then you should consider the Cappe Sante, which comprises sautéed Sea Scallops, finished with sambuca, fava beans, cream & chives.

Dinner would not be complete without a great dessert, and for your innkeeper Alan, this is almost always the Affogato, which is served in a tall glass comprising chocolate fudge, a scoop of gelato, whipped cream, coffee beans, and a pour-over of espresso.

Yum! Or, as the Italians say, Yum!
Trattoria Piatto is located at 22 West Pomfret Street, Carlisle PA 17013
Open Daily 4pm to 10pm

Select Registry News

If you still have stamped cards from the former rewards program, they must be converted to the new quill points on-line system by July 1, 2012. After that date, we will no longer be able to accept stamped cards or the $25 value reward certificates. The good news is that for each stamp on your card you will get a minimum of two Golden Quills, more if the property at which you stayed noted the additional days on your card!

See this Select Registry page for details.
